Welcome
I teach our music classes in a very active way. We do lot of dancing, singing, and even use sports equipment! It’s important to me that students see how music relates to many (or any) aspects of their lives.
Aside from general music twice a week for 30-minutes, 4th and 5th graders participate in chorus, and 5th graders can decide to play a band instrument. Aside from chorus and band concerts, first grade prepares for Sweetheart Breakfast every Valentines Day and the 2nd grade performs a play.
From the moment we wake up to the second we shut our eyes to go to sleep- music is all around us. Music has been shown to enhance academics, emotional intelligence, health, mood, and many other critical aspects of child development (and human well-being). Whether it's listening, dancing, singing, playing an instrument, or simply appreciating- there is a spark for music within each of us and I take pride in my job being each child discovering their musical niche.
In the music room, I want students to know that they are free to be themselves, no matter who that is, my message is to "be shameless."
